Hip Resurfacing

The sequence of images below is for the Total Hip Replacement. The damaged region of the hip socket is cleaned and formed to accept a cobalt chromium steel prosthetic socket. The ball of the femur is cut off and drilled out to accept a new prosthetic cobalt chromium steel shaft and ball. Hip Resurfacing is a much less invasive operation than Total Hip Replacement. Doctor Pispati feels that logically speaking, due to the inherent advantages, Hip Resurfacing (less invasive, shorter recovery, more flexibility, lower possibility of dislocation) should be the first choice and the Total Hip Replacement a fallback position.

The new CAS system is only at five or six hospitals worldwide. The cost is about 10% more to use the CAS system for a hip or knee surgery. The benefits are more exact options during surgery for the doctor and patient.
